Physical Education and Dance

Welcome to Physical Education and Dance

Welcome to the physical education department. We pride ourselves on an ethos of participation and opportunities. This is reflected in our, inclusive, Key Stage 3 and 4 core programme and our Level 2 and 3 BTEC courses.

Not only do we have an inclusive curriculum structure but we also offer a wide range of extra- curricular opportunities ranging from football to karate.

Students also have the opportunity to enhance their university UCAS applications by completing their Higher Sports Leaders awards and help inspire our younger students through mentoring in lessons.

Our highly committed and motivated department members also offer trips to Italy for skiing, a variety of European destinations for football and Twickenham for rugby matches.

Overview of the Year for Dance at Key Stage 3

We are excited that this is the second year where students at Outwood Academy Adwick will study Dance in Key Stage 3. Classes will be taught in our brand new Dance studio featuring a sprung floor, mirrors, ballet barre, black out facilities and state of the art sound systems.

Both the year 7 and 8 students will be following the curriculum pathways below; focused on the basic dance actions and dynamics, performance skills and an introduction to choreography. All schemes are designed to not only improve dance skills, develop creativity and performance qualities through studying a range of genres and styles. Students also have the opportunity to work in teams, build confidence, and develop independent learning skills and to cooperate with and consider others.
