Year 9 - HPV Programme

Update from the School Age Immunisation Team

Last academic year your child was offered the Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine in Year 8. If they received this vaccine, it was offered at the time as the first of two doses, the second to be given this academic year.

Following extensive research, The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) has concluded that a one dose schedule provides a high level of protection against HPV, so has recommended that the HPV vaccination programme reduce from two doses to one dose from 1st September 2023, therefore this year we will not be offering your child a second dose of vaccine if they received one last year. All children will now be offered a single HPV vaccine. If your child missed their vaccination in year 8 we will continue to provide the opportunity to have an HPV vaccine until they leave school.
